The Best Time to Visit Borrego Springs: A Month-by-Month Guide

Borrego Springs is a year-round destination, but each season transforms the desert into something almost unrecognizable from the last. Knowing when to visit isn't just about temperature — it's about what you actually want to do here.

Late February through early April brings the famous Anza-Borrego wildflower bloom. In strong rainfall years (a 'superbloom'), the desert floor turns gold, magenta, and lavender for two to three weeks. The timing shifts annually — follow the park's wildflower hotline before booking.

May through September is hot — daytime highs routinely exceed 105°F. This is the off-season for hiking, but the best season for stargazing. Nights cool to the low 70s, the air is bone-dry, and the Milky Way core rises high overhead from June through August.

October through January is peak hiking weather. Daytime highs hover in the 70s, nights drop to the 40s, and the trails are empty by 10am on weekdays. December nights are some of the darkest of the year — the Geminid meteor shower (mid-December) is unforgettable from a Bortle 2 sky.
